(1) Studies on photoelectrochemical solar energy conversion in semiconductor/liquid-junction cells and on fundamental processes at such junctions by use of photocalorimetric in-situ methods developed experimentally and theoretically by Dohrmann and co-workers. Applications include: testing of solar energy materials, power balance analyses, determination of entropy changes of electrochemical reactions, photocorrosion processes (in conjunction with standard electrochemical and analytical procedures), photocurrent distribution among competing reactions. (2) Photocurrent imaging as a new technique of mapping semiconductor/electrolyte properties with mm-spatial resolution (in cooperation with Prof. Tributsch, Hahn-Meitner-Institut, Berlin). (3) Optical properties of semiconductor films by in-situ photothermal spectroscopy and spectroscopic ellipsometry (in cooperation with Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung, Berlin). (4) Investigation of laser-induced photochemical reactions in microheterogeneous systems by means of time-resolved photoacoustics. Objectives are, e.g., the elucidation of primary interfacial radical reactions exploited in processes such as decontamination of waste water.
